Doodle Dursday #24 - Death by Cookie

Something cool happened yesterday...

I found a cookie on the ground.

It looked like it had fallen off a truck.

It also looked kinda dirty, so I decided to put it in a package, and give it to a friend.

My friend ate the cookie and got really sick. They took my friend to the hospital, but it was too late. My friend was dead.

It's okay though because it wasn't one of my best friends.

Moon Down Ottawa Teaser

Just a little trailer/teaser for my new online show "Moon Down Ottawa" shot from my apartment.

I'll likely be doing an episode every 3-4 weeks.

Inspiration for the show came from all the greats on late night TV (Letterman, Ferguson, Tom Green, Micheal Essansy, etc) as well as ItsDuckSandwich.

I agolopize for the lighting, but I just got some great training over the weekend from SAW Video, and it will be improving in time for the first episode.

Review: Moonrappin'

Moonrappin' is a radio show currently airing on CHUO 89.1 FM and www.chuo.fm

It's kinda shitty that my own radio project is called Moon Down Radio but hey, whatareyougonnado?

A little background info according to wikipedia as of May 11th, 2009:

"Alumni to CHUO, Sean Cooley has come back after a near 10 year hiatus. Sean's background with CHUO was as the co-host (and call-screener) for Tom Green's Midnight Caller and also as the host of his own show The Breaks. A call-in talk radio show which is now back and ready to make you laugh on Sunday nights at 1 am to 3 am. Now called Moonrappin' "

"Moonrappin'
Monday, 01 h 00-02 h 59
An eclectic mix of funky Moonrappin’ music, taking your calls on hilarious and oddball topics.
Character skits, live remotes from here and there and insane cuts to “Lunna Rappina” our sister show from somewhere in the world. Moonrappin’ brings you Awards shows, dance competition judging, call in contests, Cooking live at CHUO with the studio audience and of course many comedic spoofs on many situations.
Cooley and Creed's Moonrappin’ focuses on the humorous side of life, as if there can really be a serious one! Listen in – we will make you want to participate."

I think the show has been on CHUO for 3-4 weeks now, since it was first mentioned here on April 26th, 2009.

I called in to the show last night, and you can stream the delightful conversation here: Phone Call (8:29)

Sean Cooley being fed crackers.
And for the sake of putting a face to a voice...
Let's say Creed is the coloured guy feeding him crackers.

If you want to hear the whole thing: 05-18-2009 - Moonrappin' (43 mb - 47:19)

It appears that Creed and Co. host a show by the same name (Moonrappin') over on CHCR FM.

It's on the air live Tuesday nights from 8pm - 11pm.
Reruns: Tuesdays at 11pm, Thursdays at 11pm, and Saturdays at 11pm.

My score: 7 out of Bleen. Not bad, not bad at all.

Review: Omegle

The blog Temporarily Titleless brought to my attention the website Omegle: "When you use Omegle, we pick another user at random and let you have a one-on-one chat with each other. Chats are completely anonymous, although there is nothing to stop you from revealing personal details if you would like."

Here was my test-run:

My social skills did not transfer over to this digital medium.

However, this is a great tool now that Craiglist has removed its erotic services.
Omegle says: Rapists and Murderers, apply within.

What. What son.

Doodle Dursday #22 - Video Games

I'm a pretty avid gamer. I own a couple systems, and have to say that this new game I just picked up for the K-Pro Gaming System is DA BOMB.

22-inch colour TV. So realistic.

It's not called DA BOMB. It's actually called Max Hunt.

Badass.

It's about a cowboy who must spend the maximum amount of time hunting gangsters. That's why it's called Max Hunt. Duh.

Yeehaw!

You can commandeer vehicles, like coach buses, and chariots and stuff. It's pretty BAMF if you ask me, but some people have told me that it's a rip-off of a game called Great Thieves Automobiles. I've never heard of this game before, so I'm pretty sure they're just jealous.

Uzi 2 the head!

There are lots of baddies to shoot in the game. Shooting bad guys is good. Shooting good guys is also good. Shooting shooters is great. This game is the shoot.

I've had my game face on since I started playing this game:

BRING IT ON!!!

I'm going to give this game 7 out of 5. Which is 14 times better than 5 out of 5.

Norm Macdonald Revisited

Norm Macdonald was on Howard Stern this morning. In an earlier blog I mentioned that Stern's show is a must-listen and this is just another shining example. It's too bad he'll be gone in a year and a half. Nobody runs a show like Howard, and when you toss in Norm and Artie...pure auditory bliss...this was Norm's third appearance since Howard moved to Sirius/XM.

He revealed some pretty cool things in this one:

  1. Norm loves to read.
  2. Norm doesn't drink.
  3. Norm is a man's man.
I'm not one to steal other people's intellectual content/material, so thank god somebody else already did: Thursday May 7th, 2009 - NM Appearance (1:03:05) (10.8 mb)

Norm's first appearance on Howard Stern's satellite show can be seen here in 7 parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5GpyJQdc_I&fmt=18

Norm's second appearance on Howard Stern's satellite show can be seen here in 5 parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cZU6uaY9rE&fmt=18

I'm pretty sure HowardTV will have Norm's third appearance on pretty soon too. Keep your eyes peeled.

-JS

EDIT- Here's Norm's third appearance...heavily cut down (who are the geniuses working at HowardTV?) from one hour to a half hour: http://h0wardstern143.blogspot.com/2009/05/norm-macdonald.html

EDIT 2 - Norm on Letterman for the first time in 3 years: Youtube Part 1, Part 2

Once every blue moon I get to go on the air at a local community-based radio station in Ottawa. It's been a goal of mine to get a regular radio gig for the last few years now.

I've always loved listening to radio since I was kid. I could never fall asleep at my bed time, so I'd pull out my walkman and channel surf for a couple hours. Sometimes I'd listen to stand-up comedy, other times it was old-time radio on AM stations (Suspense, etc.).

These are my favourite, all-time radio shows. I highly recommend checking them all out:

  1. Loveline (Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew years)
  2. The Howard Stern Show (-minus all the stupid stripper bullshit and sybian crap)
  3. The Midnight Caller
  4. Coast-to-Coast AM (before it got overly political)
Out of all these shows...the hardest to track down is Tom Green's Midnight Caller. Here's a little history:

"In 1990, Tom Green hosted The Rap Show on Ottawa's CHUO radio station, along with the other members of Organized Rhyme. The two other members eventually left the program, and that's when Tom's program moved to Friday night from 2 to 6 AM. He renamed the show "Nightfall" and hosted it along with Shawn Greenson and Glenn Humplik. In 1993, Tom launched The Midnight Caller Show on Friday night's from Midnight to 2AM. People would call in to discuss different subjects Tom had chosen, or simply to talk about something else (that resulted in a lot of people being hung-up on, and a lot of absolute nonsense).

Frequent guests on the show were Phil Giroux, Derek Harvie, and Sean Cooley."

As I said earlier, it's next to impossible to track down episodes of this show. I've compiled all the episodes I have here, in hopes that perhaps other people could contribute. If you have any old tapes or mp3s of this show PLEASE contact me at moondownradio(at)gmail.com

05-27-1994 - Midnight Caller (46:18): Sunburn/suntan stories, animal calls from Algonquin park, my legs are made of garbage cans.

06-17-1994 - Midnight Caller (1:30:24): OJ Simpson trial, hot muggy weather, Dunkin' Donuts, microwave sound effects, Phil Giroux guests.

XX-XX-1995 - Midnight Caller (1:39:20): Summer the call-screener, hole in condoms, Sean Cooley guests.

05-XX-1995 - Midnight Caller (1:58:13):
Anesthesia and surgery, Nightfall revisited, Shawn Greenson guests.

XX-XX-1996 - Midnight Caller (1:41:48): Random topics, Derek Harvie guests.

Special thanks goes to java joel and Tom Green for these. I've done my best to remaster the audio since the originals were pretty rough.

Here's some of Tom's freestyling on the Midnight Caller (taken directly from mp3s above):

Oh, and finally, here's a small segment CBC Radio ran during his run at Rogers:

EDIT: Some people prefer using rapidshare, so all 5 episodes have been put together in one .rar file: http://rapidshare.com/files/233354557/Midnight_Caller__Radio.rar.html

EDIT: It's early Monday morning, 1:00AM, been bored out of my mind in Ottawa for the last while, decided to start channel surfing on the AM/FM dial...whaddayouknow? Sean Cooley is back on the airwaves!!!

"Sean Cooley has come back after a near 10 year hiatus. Sean's background with CHUO was as the co-host (call screener) for Tom Green's "Midnight Caller" and also as the host of his own show "The Breaks". A call-in talk radio show which is now back and ready to make you laugh on Sunday nights at 1am. Now called MOONRAPPIN! CHUO has spawned a few other notables, but their true affection is for their current volunteers, many of whom have been at the station for more than a decade."

Tune in every Monday morning, 1 AM to 3? Probably? Here: CHUO 89.1 FM Streams

I finally got a chance to experience a circus for the first time in my life last week.

I will try to re-create the afternoon. Press play and continue to scroll down:

I'm on my way to the circus.

When I entered the circus tent, I saw a big elephant.

Big elephant.

It was a big elephant. I wanted to pet the big elephant, but unfortunately, I got too close.

It took a dump on my foot.

Served a la mode.

I ran out of the main tent and found a hose to wash the shit off my shoe. I gave her a couple bucks for the fine cleaning job she did.

At that point, I heard someone yell:

HEY YOU

It was the ringleader.

Doo doodle doo doooo doodle doo doo...

He invited me inside the tent of Misfortunes and Misgivings

First he showed me pig boy.

Oink.

Then he showed me Iris (or was it Eye-ris...get it! HAHAHAhaha I crack myself up sometimes).

LOL pun.

Finally, he saved the best for last.

It was a guy who played with marionettes.

WANT I SHOULD ENTERTAIN YAS?

I was so scared, I ran away.

I can't wait to go back next year!
